Stories from my Life: Here's what I'm going to do with this page. Some of life's stories just don't fit neatly in categories. From time to time, I'll post stories here. Sunday, August 11, 2001 was a busy day. I installed one Firehouse radio system and assisted with a site survey at another. Back home, I trimmed some bushes and felled a small tree. That night, I examined my "trimmer on a stick". It's blade was worn out, so I drove down to Home Depot after dinner, to buy one. To make a long story rather short, they don't have them! Going to show that asking really helps, one of their people came up with a novel solution to my dilemma: He would open a new trimmer, take off the blade, *gave it to me for nothing*, and send the new trimmer back to the manufacturer to replace the "missing" blade. Apparently, they do this all the time for their customers. Wow! What service! Unfortunately, it's the wrong blade and wouldn't fit, even after trying for over an hour - it's just not the right piece. I even have a burned out drill bit, which proves that the steel used in the trimmer blade is of the highest quality, and a slice in my finger, proving that it's VERY sharp. So much for the rumor that they only sell cheap, low quality stuff! Solution: I'm heading down to Home Depot to buy a new trimmer, the same style and brand that was "stripped" for me. At least I'll have a spare blade! I was very impressed with their service. I have actually been impressed with Home Depot for many years. Usually, I shop in their "Pro" store, to avoid the "mobs" at the consumer oriented store. This story, however, was at the "consumer" store. This is not to say, "abandon your neighborhood store", not at all. Patronize them too, so they'll be there when you something small. |
