The story of The wall and my youngest Son:
Sometimes things get complicated for a Single
Dad, and the Summer "Daddy Time" of year 2001 is a
perfect example. As the Boys are growing up, they want to do
more things on their own. This year, they wanted to attend
several camps, each having different preferences. The result
is that I was with them less than I wanted, and sometimes I was in
the company of only one Boy at a time. Rather than seeing
this as a problem, I see it as an opportunity.
In mid June, I has The Boys for the
weekend. On Sunday, the eldest had to go to a camp.
Christopher was with me, by himself for a few days.
"Daddy,
I want to do Daddy stuff while I'm with you", he
said, "Like building and painting".
I just happen to own a wall that needs sheet rocking. Lets
get to work.
Christopher
is pretty darned good with screwing in the
sheet rock. He also is a pretty quick learner
in the mudding and taping department.
Once
the wall has been taped, textured and allowed to dry
overnight,
Christopher paints with great skill and care. Don't worry,
that's one of Daddy's painting shirts he's wearing!
On
the last day, painting is finished and Christopher is justifiably
pleased with the results! Nothing like a little Can
Do! to bolster self confidence.
